Companies, universities, libraries, etc have filters very often to ban arbitrarily Internet sites. The browser then is configured to use a local proxy to connect to Internet. You can get the information with easy with Google Chrome:
Open a new tab and copy this on the browser bar: chrome://net-internals/#proxy.
You will find this information under Effective proxy settings:
- Your browser uses DIRECT connections. No filter is configured.
You don't need KProxy Agent.
- Your browser uses a filter configured with "PAC script: url_to_pac_script", that is, an automatic configuration script.
You need KProxy Agent.
- Your browser uses a filter configured with "Proxy server: address:port".
You need KProxy Agent.
It is not possible connect to a proxy on Internet through a filter, we need an external program to make it happen.
The good news are that KProxy Agent:
- It is a portable program that doesn't need to be installed, just unzip and run. It can be executed even in a pen drive
- It works better on autodetection of proxy settings on every operating system than previous version based on Chrome and Firefox APIs
- It is far more efficient
KProxy Agent emulates an Internet proxy. Any program that can use Internet proxies, can connect to Internet using KProxy Extension. Other devices (in example a PS3 or a cell phone) that can configure a HTTP proxy can be configured to connect to Internet under KProxy servers.
For any program in your computer, configure the proxy (address:port)
127.0.0.1:3333
For any device, the IP address must be the IP address of your computer
Obviously, you have to start KProxy Extension and run KProxy Agent in your computer to make it work.
